Harp & Bowl
The best picture of what the house of prayer strives for can be found in the book of Revelation, in the many descriptions of the redeemed gathered before the throne of God, such as:
…”the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. – Revelation 5:8
Harp & Bowl is an expression that speaks of worshiping God with musical instruments (harp) combined with prayer (bowl). This is a reality that exists around the Throne of God in Heaven.
The EHOP framework for our prayer sets is built around this worship and prayer reality. The combination of worship with intercession, singing the Word of God both Scripturally and prophetically is the basic principle of the “harp and bowl” concept.
Enjoyable and sustainable prayer emerges as we couple it with worship focused on God’s beauty and worth. As we gaze on God’s beauty by studying His Word and meditating on what Scripture says, our hearts become alive and connected with the Father. Worship ushers us into God’s presence in a way that is often difficult in a quiet corporate setting. Worship opens our hearts to prayer. Music helps keep the fire of intercession burning day and night, sets our focus on the Lord, and builds connection within the body of Christ. It still takes work and discipline to pray, for sure, but we have found that a few hours of prayer passes quickly when we combine intercession, worship music, and a focus on God’s beauty.
Practically speaking, we have found this framework for prayer meetings to be both enjoyable and therefore easily sustainable. This is important for EHOP since our goal is to seek God 24/7.
